Hello and welcome to the Cheshire,Staffs and North Shropshire branch of the Saab Owners Club of GB

We are a relatively small branch, but a veryactive one.We have monthly meetings, have stands at around 12-15 Classic car shows throughout the Spring and Summer. We hosted the "National" meeting for the Saab Owners Club at Stafford County Showground (A 3 Day event) in 2006 and this year we are hosting our fourth consecutive "Spares Day" at the Cosford Air Museum, this is an event where us Saab owners can gather en masse to discuss our great cars, wander around the excellent museum (Free admission) and hopefully pick up a bargain from the many Saab specialists who will be there. We used the same venue last year, and it really was a fantastic day,the facilities are second to none and its just off the M54 near Telford. No more than an hour from anywhere in the UK (If you have a 9000 Aero)!!!

Please note that we have changed our venue for the monthly meetings,we used to use the "Stop Inn" on the A34 Just to the north of Newcastle Under Lyme, but due to the economic climate (and shoddy barkeeping)!!! it closed down.I had the un-enviable task of trawling around the pubs of North Staffs and South Cheshire to find a suitable replacement (I have receipts for £1,500 which need to be reimbursed)!!!  and I have found a belter. The Red Bull on the A34 Congleton Road (By the "Red Bull" traffic lights) A proper traditional Robinsons pub, with loads of nooks and crannies,a massive car park, good ale,and a Quiz night, should we wish to stay on after our Saab discussions. Please join us,we will be there at 7.30 on Weds 11th March (I will keep the website updated for future meetings)

If you are reading this, and are considering coming along, but are a bit wary because you dont know anyone, don,t worry. We are probably the most "Easy going" branch there is,we care not of your Gender, age, what Saab you own,we are just a bunch of enthusiasts who want to talk about cars.

This was the fourth consecutive Owners Club Spares Day hosted by the Cheshire, North Shropshire and Staffordshire branch, and what a contrast to the first one at Tittesworth Reservoir. On that day three years ago the heavens opened, and it continued to rain all day, dampening everything but our enthusiasm. We volunteered to do the following year, at the same venue, which was a dry day, but was somewhat spoiled by an over officious oafish warden, who made some of us move our vehicles mid event for Health and Safety reasons. His health and safety was very much in the balance, but we reluctantly decided to comply and agreed to seek out another venue for 2008.

We all chipped in with ideas but Martyn came up with the RAF Museum at Cosford, and what a cracking venue this is. Top marks to Mr A. Last year was a lovely dry day, and very well attended. I am sure that all of the attendees had a great day, the Museum itself is fascinating and quite appropriate for lovers of cars with an aeronautical heritage, the facilities are second to none (Loo, s, restaurant, exibits, and the scale of the place)

The 2009 event was eagerly anticipated by our branch, and as usual Chris and Colin (The early birds) Were there setting up at the crack of dawn, with Mart in his VW camper arranging the awning to offer shade, for what was to become a scorching hot day. The rest of us turned up shortly after, and took turns to welcome the visitors.

It was nice to see the event supported by so many, the acre of space we were given was well populated with Saabs of all ages, a healthy batch of Traders and Car Booters, and some familiar faces from within The Driver Magazine. Thanks to everyone who attended, all moneys raised went straight into the coffers of the Museum itself, with much gratitude.

The day was memorable for a few things, one was certainly the weather, and another was the surprising lack of 9000s,out of 50/60 cars, only two were on show. Where have they all gone?

I am not sure of the plans for next year, or if any other branch wants to take it on? But no matter where it is,it is a Must for the events calendar. I don’t think the traders make a mint from it, but it provides us Club Members a chance to meet folks from other branches, and the opportunity to discuss our favourite subject. Its like a Mini National, and long may it continue.
